Favorite Finds Friday: 6/17/16
Each Friday, I share five articles or resources that speak on fertility, pregnancy, doulas, labor, birth, postpartum, family life, and local happenings. Enjoy this week’s Favorite Finds Friday!
This sweet mother tells about the birth of her child. Her birth experience wasn’t what she planned, wanted, and hoped for. She was grateful for her beautiful son and that they were both healthy after the birth. However, she also discovered that it was not only normal but necessary to grieve over what she lost, her dream of a natural childbirth experience. She wants other mothers who may feel as if they are ungrateful or selfish for mourning the loss of their dream to know that it is okay, normal, and not ungrateful or selfish to have these emotions.
This article explains a recent opinion statement presented from an ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) committee. This statement essentially says, “Even though the doctor may truly believe what s/he is recommending is best for baby and mother, using coercion, guilt, threat, or force is a discriminatory act and acts as a barrier to care.” This is only an opinion statement and not a guideline but it is a step in the right direction. The first step in making a change is to recognize a change is needed. I am optimistic about what may become practice due to this statement.
This article gives 13 things to try/keep in mind during the recovery period after a C-section. Remember to ask your doctor about any of the suggestions before incorporating them into your plan.
In this article, my friend and fellow doula, Callie Corless, aka The Swaying Doula, speaks about the importance of exercise in pregnancy. Callie also teaches a prenatal dance exercise classes in Grapevine, TX. If you are in the area and would like a fun way to exercise and to meet a few other expecting moms, I highly recommend getting in contact with Callie.
This article by Alpha, a Christian childbirth education, talks about grace. They explain how we all need to show others and ourselves a little more grace.
